The ways we shop - the right to the city
The aim of this installation is to draw the attention to the importance of retaining the atmosphere and spirit of shops in the mature HDB estate.
The right to the city should not just be limited to the citizen right to alter the city, but it is also their right to experience the city of the past which in this case is the shops in the mature HDB estate.
The installation come in a form of an information panel strategically placed over the edge of the railing at Fu Lu Shou Complex multi-volume space. Location of the types of shops in the mall also plays a part into where these information panel are been placed.
Types of shops typology identify in Singapore
Fu Lu Shou Complex is an old typology shopping mall located in Waterloo Street full of religion activity. This is an identity of the pioneer generation shopping typology with kampong community across all the shopkeeper.
The definition for 'the right to the city' is everyone should be given a chance to experience shops in the mature HDB estate. To allow the future generation to experience it when all these shops have disappeared, an installation within FLS complex can be archived to frame a selected few shops to educate the future generation.
