Workplace - Controlled supervision
Part two of this project aims to identify surveillance in workplace. How the exploration of views and perspectives can promote or ease over-supervision to encourage collaboration and productivity.
The office is located in Vertex Tower, a light industrial complex with its upper floor occupied by offices. The selected office are occupied by two architectural firm. company A is a architectural firm base in Singapore with a registered architects and company B is a satellite firm base in various different country.
The shophouse entrance layout
The idea of separating the entry point for both the boss and staff work desk is to reduce the frequency of the boss intruding the territory of the staff work area. By separating it near the entrance and the introduction of long passer way towards the boss work area, this pre-empt the staff of the bosses arrival.
View and perspective
The different spaces are within the same volume of an office. It enable everyone in any situation to be in their comfortable spot. It display an open yet separated space with restricted views but co-exist in a large open office.
The view of the staff towards the boss direction. By using the shelf as a visual partition and glass as backing, this allow the staff to peek through the partition to see the bosses on a higher platform in the office.
Material
The entry to both the boss and staff work desk are separated right at the entrance. The usage of screening not only allows for privacy within the staff area, but also pre-empt the staff of the bosses arrival and departure. Secondly, the use of hollow timber floor that generate noise when boss walk up the stairs to their work-desk allows the staff to be more aware of the boss presence.
